Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill plays down reports of him being a potential replacement for Rafael Benitez at Liverpool FC

MARTIN O’NEILL played down reports of him being touted as a possible successor to Rafa Benitez at Anfield after Richard Dunne’s own goal earned Blackburn victory at Villa Park.

The Ulsterman has been linked with the Reds with suggestions Slaven Bilic could in turn replace him.

When asked if Villa is still a special place to be and if his was still a special job to have, O’Neill said: “Without a doubt. Aston Villa is a remarkable club and there is not much more I can add to that.”
